Fort Worth Animal Care & Control is introducing a new mobile veterinary unit called Chip & Snip to deliver free spay and neuter services across the city. The initiative aims to remove barriers to care by bringing essential veterinary treatment directly into residential areas, thereby supporting responsible pet ownership.
The fully equipped mobile clinic is scheduled to begin its neighborhood visits on Saturday, July 18. Residents in select locations will be able to drop off their animals for scheduled procedures and retrieve them on the same day. The trailer contains modern medical equipment that enables licensed city veterinarians to perform surgeries, administer vaccinations, and provide microchipping services.
Access to the mobile clinic requires residents to register through an online portal to schedule appointments. The city published details about the program in a blog post on Wednesday, directing pet owners to the registration site for more information.
This mobile unit builds upon the department’s existing efforts to reduce the population of homeless animals by preventing unplanned litters. Since the beginning of the current fiscal year, Fort Worth Animal Care & Control has completed more than 5,335 spay and neuter surgeries at its shelter facilities. Officials note that these procedures also offer health benefits for pets, such as a reduced risk of cancer and decreased aggressive behavior.
Fort Worth is located approximately 31 miles west of Dallas.
