Fort Worth police responded to a fatal shooting on the evening of July 4, 2026, at a large gathering in the city. The incident occurred in the 5900 block of Wilbarger Street, where officers were dispatched at approximately 8:18 p.m. to report of a shooting involving multiple individuals.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, the violence began when two men at the event engaged in a verbal dispute concerning a woman. The situation quickly turned physical as both individuals retrieved firearms and exchanged gunfire. One of the men was killed at the scene, while the other was transported to a nearby hospital. His current medical status has not been disclosed.
Fort Worth is about 31 miles west of Dallas. Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation and are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the exchange of fire. Investigators stated that they believe the shooting was an isolated incident involving two individuals who were acquainted with one another.
The identity of the deceased man has not yet been released.
