Allen’s Offensive Surge

Nick Allen provided the critical offensive spark for the Houston Astros, driving in three runs as Houston defeated the Washington Nationals 6-3 on Tuesday night at Nationals Park. The victory improved the Astros’ record to 46-48, while the Nationals fell to 47-46.

Allen’s impact began in the second inning when he hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Walker and advancing Smith to third. He added to his production in the fourth inning by singling to left field, which brought in both Dezenzo and Walker, putting Houston ahead 3-2. Allen reached third base again on the play and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Vázquez in the same frame, extending the lead to 5-2.

Astros Pitching Holds Strong

Houston’s pitching staff effectively managed the game despite early pressure. Andrew Alvarez took the loss for Washington, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing five earned runs on four hits while walking five batters. He was supported by a bullpen effort that kept the Nationals from mounting a serious comeback.

Steven Okert earned the win, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Enyel De Los Santos and Bryan King each recorded a save opportunity, contributing one inning each with no runs allowed. Bryan Abreu closed out the regular innings with a scoreless frame, and Josh Hader secured the save with a perfect 0.1-inning outing, striking out one batter.

Scoring Sequence and Home Runs

The Nationals struck first in the top of the first inning when Wood homered to right center, a 419-foot shot that gave Washington a 1-0 lead. However, the Astros quickly tied the game in the bottom of the second when Walker scored on Allen’s sacrifice fly.

Washington regained the lead in the third inning when Abrams hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Wood. The Astros responded immediately in the fourth with their two-run rally led by Allen’s single. Vázquez added another run later in the inning with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Matthews.

In the sixth inning, Vázquez singled to right, driving in Dezenzo to make it 5-2. The Astros extended their lead in the eighth when Jose Altuve homered to left center, a 402-foot blast that made it 6-2. The Nationals added a final run in the ninth when Tena homered to right center, a 398-foot shot, ending the scoring at 6-3.

The game drew 20,424 fans to Nationals Park. Three home runs were hit in total during the contest. The Astros’ pitching line included Tatsuya Imai, who pitched 3.2 innings allowing two earned runs, and Alimber Santa, who allowed one earned run in 0.2 innings.
