Late Surge Decides Game
The Houston Astros overcame a scoreless stretch in the middle innings to defeat the San Francisco Giants 6-3 at Oracle Park. The deciding runs arrived in the 10th inning, where two hits provided enough offense to break a tie that had persisted through regulation.
Houston took an early lead in the first inning when Jose Altuve hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Yordan Alvarez to score. San Francisco responded in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly by Matt Chapman that tied the game at 1-1. The Giants regained the lead in the fifth when Kyle McCann homered to right field.
Houston answered in the seventh with a home run from Alex Bregman to left, tying the contest again at 2-2.
San Francisco took the lead back in the bottom of the seventh when Chapman hit his second home run of the game to right-center field. The Giants extended their advantage in the ninth inning when LaMonte Wade Jr. singled to right, allowing Matt Chapman to score and put San Francisco ahead 3-2.
Pitching Performance
Hayden Wesneski started for Houston, pitching seven innings while allowing five hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts. Steven Okert pitched one inning in relief, giving up one hit but no earned runs. Josh Hader closed the game by pitching two scoreless innings, earning the win with his fourth save of the season.
