Parkland Health, the public hospital system serving Dallas County, has been granted four achievement awards from the American Heart Association. The recognition highlights the institution's adherence to evidence-based treatment guidelines for cardiovascular conditions.
The awards were part of the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines program, which evaluates hospital care standards nationwide using expertise from the organization and the American Stroke Association. Parkland received the following specific honors: Coronary Artery Disease NSTEMI Gold with Target for Type 2 Diabetes, Resuscitation Gold for the Pediatric patient population, Resuscitation Target CPR for adults, and Resuscitation Target Survival for adults.
Officials stated that the awards reflect Parkland's dedication to treating heart disease, supporting patient recovery, and reducing hospital readmissions. Michael Lane, the senior vice president and chief quality and safety officer at Parkland, said the system is committed to delivering high-quality care by following the latest treatment guidelines. He noted that streamlining processes helps ensure timely and appropriate treatment for heart attacks and strokes.
Karen E. Joynt Maddox, MD, MPH, chair of the American Heart Association Quality Oversight Committee, said the awards demonstrate Parkland's commitment to caring for community members requiring cardiovascular services. She added that following the association's quality improvement protocols helps advance shared goals of better patient outcomes, fewer readmissions, and lower mortality rates.
The American Heart Association's 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Report identifies heart disease as the leading cause of death in the United States. Parkland Health stated that studies have proven patients achieve better outcomes when their care aligns with evidence-based treatment guidelines.
