DALLAS, Texas — The Republican National Committee will hold its first-ever midterm national convention in Dallas on September 9 and 10 at American Airlines Center, party leaders announced.

RNC Chairman Joe Gruters said the event will be a showcase of the party's record heading into the 2026 midterm elections.

"This convention will be a Trump-a-palooza," Gruters said. "We will showcase the America First agenda, which has delivered the largest tax cut in history and made communities safer."

President Donald Trump confirmed the convention, saying Republicans will use the event to highlight accomplishments since the 2024 presidential election.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson called the selection "a tremendous honor."

"Dallas has become America's top destination for business, families, and major events," Johnson said in a statement. "I look forward to welcoming my fellow Republicans from across the United States to Dallas this September."

The convention arrives at a pivotal moment for Republicans, who hold slim majorities in both chambers of Congress. The party in power traditionally loses ground in midterm elections, and without Trump appearing on a ballot, party leaders worry about galvanizing voters.

The event will spotlight Texas's U.S. Senate race between Republican nominee Ken Paxton — the state attorney general who defeated longtime Senator John Cornyn in the primary with Trump's backing — and Democratic nominee James Talarico.

The RNC voted at its winter meeting in January to amend procedures allowing the midterm event, which historically has focused on presidential nominating conventions. The last time the Republican Party held a national convention in Dallas was 1984.

Texas GOP Chair D'rinda Randall said the party is excited to host the event.

"President Trump has said that Dallas is one of his favorite places in the world, and Texans couldn't be more excited to welcome back our favorite President," Randall said.
