Kay Anchors White Sox Victory
Anthony Kay secured his seventh victory of the season, pitching five innings and allowing two earned runs, to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Thursday at Globe Life Field. Kay, who struck out four batters while walking two, faced five hits but managed to keep the Rangers from mounting a sustained threat early on.
The White Sox bullpen provided crucial support, combining for four scoreless innings with a total of eight strikeouts.
Meidroth, Benintendi Drive in Runs
The White Sox offense was fueled by timely hitting from Meidroth and Benintendi, who each recorded two RBIs. Meidroth opened the scoring in the second inning with a single to left field that brought B. Montgomery home. He added another run in the fourth inning with a single to right, scoring Murakami.
Benintendi contributed significantly in the fourth, singling to center to score B. Montgomery, and later in the sixth with another center-field single that plated B. Montgomery again.
The Rangers responded in the second inning when Cauley hit a 382-foot home run to right field, tying the game at 1-1. Despite the home run, the Rangers struggled to generate further offense against Kay and the White Sox relief corps. The White Sox broke the tie in the fourth inning, taking a 3-1 lead before Cauley scored on a groundout in the same frame.
The final run came in the sixth when Benintendi’s single scored B. Montgomery, extending the lead to 4-2.
