The Dallas-Fort Worth region has emerged as a significant center for technology employment, ranking third nationally in job postings behind Washington, D.C., and New York City, according to a CompTIA analysis. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics for May indicates the area posted nearly 11,000 tech-related positions.
Industry experts attribute this growth to the region's established presence in financial technology, cybersecurity, telecommunications, healthcare, and insurance sectors. Dr. Timothy Bray of the University of Texas at Dallas noted that while Austin may generate initial concepts, North Texas industries are responsible for large-scale data infrastructure and production.
This expansion has also stimulated local professional communities. Chris Oyeku, who has worked in the area’s tech sector for over a decade, launched MixerCloud networking events in 2022 to connect professionals. Although the gatherings shifted from monthly to bi-monthly, attendance remains steady at several hundred individuals. Oyeku is now developing a mobile application to expand the platform's reach.
