Rescue operations are underway along the Nepal-China border following severe flooding and mudslides that have resulted in at least 360 deaths. Authorities are searching for more than 1,400 missing individuals in the affected regions of Nepal and Tibet. The head of Nepal's tourism board stated that 65 U.S. citizens are included in the list of missing persons.
CBS News Texas confirmed that a couple from North Texas has not been located. Madhu Ahuja and Deepak Ahuja, who have resided in Dallas for more than three decades, were traveling to Mount Kailash for a religious pilgrimage. The trip was organized by the Isha Foundation, and the couple was part of a group designated as S3.
The journey was planned to coincide with Deepak Ahuja's 60th birthday.
Family members reported that the couple was at the Gyirong Port Immigration Center when the weather events struck. They have been missing since that time. The family learned of the situation through the Isha Foundation and has since reached out to local and international officials as well as search parties to assist in locating the Ahujas.
