Ranchman’s, a historic cafe in Ponder, Texas, has reopened after nearly six years of closure, now operating as Ranchman’s by Marty B. Located at 110 W. Bailsy St., about six miles west of I-35W, the restaurant features significant renovations, including a large Western-themed saloon and a spacious patio that can accommodate up to 500 guests.

Originally established in 1903 and reopened in the mid-1940s, Ranchman’s was purchased by local restaurateur Marty Bryan, who also owns Marty B’s in Bartonville. The oak-paneled dining room has been preserved, along with memorabilia from the film “Bonnie & Clyde.” The reopening drew a crowd, with customers lining up shortly after the doors opened at 3 p.m. on a recent weekend. The expanded menu retains signature dishes like griddled steaks and large chicken-fried steaks while introducing new items such as hand-packed burgers and pies based on Bryan’s mother’s recipes. Bryan stated the restaurant aims to maintain its traditional cooking style.

Bryan, who had not visited Ranchman’s prior to its closure, was motivated to purchase the restaurant after receiving inquiries from his customers. The previous owner, Dave Ross, retired and sold the establishment after 20 years of service. Ranchman’s was a favorite of the late Texas author Larry McMurtry, who found inspiration for his novel “Lonesome Dove” during a visit. Future plans for the restaurant include the potential opening of a Marty B’s Ice Cream, though details remain unclear.
