Thousands of AT&T customers in the Dallas-Fort Worth region are experiencing significant service interruptions today stemming from fiber infrastructure problems. The disruptions have impacted internet, television, and certain phone services across dozens of local ZIP codes.
According to an outage map provided by the telecommunications company, a fiber equipment failure has caused severe service loss in four specific areas: 75050, 75051, 75052, and 75211. AT&T estimates that repairs for this particular issue will take approximately 10 hours to complete.
A separate, severe fiber cable failure is affecting a larger group of ZIP codes, with an estimated repair time of eight hours. These affected areas include 75149, 75150, 75159, 75180, 75181, 75203, 75204, 75205, 75212, 75216, 75217, 75224, 75227, 75236, 75244, and 75253.
Data from the tracking site Downdetector indicates a sharp rise in customer complaints throughout the day. Reports of issues first spiked around 2:18 a.m., followed by a substantial increase beginning at 10:30 a.m. By approximately 2 p.m., the number of reported problems had reached 2,795, a dramatic increase from the service's normal baseline of 59 reports.
While the severe outages are concentrated in the listed ZIP codes, other parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area are also experiencing disruptions, though AT&T has not classified them as severe. The company’s outage site also notes that customers in Houston are facing similar issues.
