The Texas Behavioral Health Center in Dallas has begun opening in phases starting in the summer of 2026. The facility, located at 4855 Harry Hines Blvd., is currently restricting who it admits. At this time, the center is only accepting direct transfers from facilities in Dallas, Collin, and Denton counties. It is not accepting walk-ins or emergent psychiatric transfers.
This hospital is the first state-funded psychiatric hospital in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It is operated by UT Southwestern Medical Center in partnership with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, which owns the building. The 505,000-square-foot site will eventually hold 292 beds, with 200 designated for adults and 92 for children and adolescents.
The center aims to provide comprehensive behavioral health treatment in a modern environment. Plans include private patient rooms, access to natural light, and spaces designed to support recovery. The facility will also offer training for various behavioral health disciplines. As it expands to full capacity, the hospital intends to introduce new care models, such as interventional psychiatry, drawing on UT Southwestern’s clinical expertise.
UT Southwestern faculty currently provides behavioral health care across multiple systems, including William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, Children’s Health, and Parkland Health. The organization recommends contacting established inpatient or outpatient clinics for immediate care needs. Services at the Texas Behavioral Health Center are funded through the HHSC and provided in partnership with the HHSC State Hospital System.
Further details regarding the exact timeline for full operational capacity are not yet clear. The center’s contact number is 469-852-5555.
